Mr. Shimamoto joined Walters Bender Strohbehn and Vaughan as an associate in 2008 and practices in the areas of civil litigation, commercial and business litigation, product liability and class actions.
Mr. Shimamoto earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. While in law school, he was a member of both the Moot Court and Law Review boards. Mr. Shimamoto represented the school at the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition, where his brief won a “best brief” award for the region. Mr. Shimamoto was also involved in student government, ultimately serving as the Chief Justice of the university’s Superior Court. In that role, he had the unique experience of presiding over the impeachment trial of the Student Body President. Mr. Shimamoto graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers.
Mr. Shimamoto’s publications include: Rethinking Hate Crime in the Age of Terror, 72 UMKC L. REV. 829 (2004); and To Take Arms Against a See of Trouble: Legal Citation and the Reassertion of Hierarchy, 73 UMKC L. REV. 443 (2004).
Before joining the firm, Mr. Shimamoto interned with the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri in the chambers of the Honorable Ortrie D. Smith and served for two years at the Court of Appeals for the Western District of Missouri, as judicial clerk to the Honorable Ronald R. Holliger.
